Last year, your employer started cleaning up the job classification system and salary structure. He first made an inventory by comparing both versions of Damen Verolme and Damen Schiedam. This resulted in a number of issues that required adjustment, along with a few other bottlenecks. So far no problem…
The matter
Shortly after the summer holidays of 2022, without further consultation with the trade unions or works council, the employer started to resolve the differences by approaching employees individually and giving new job descriptions or classifying them differently in the wage structure. We call this 'executing a change'.
In December 2022, the employer repeated this process with a large, different group of employees.
The progress
In the meantime, both the trade unions and the Works Council have sent a letter to the employer stating unequivocally that we do not agree with this state of affairs! The implementation of the employer resembles a reorganization. As long as we do not receive complete (documented) information about this inventory, the employer's commitment and the consequences for all employees, we cannot assess whether it concerns something other than a reorganization.
The response
On Wednesday, February 8, 2023, we sent the Managing Director, Peter Altena, an email with our view and solution. To date we have not received any response.

We therefore invite the employees to discuss this subject with each other and to offer you the opportunity to ask us questions.

The Works Council
The Works Council has indicated that it wishes to organize the meeting together with the trade unions and therefore to open the invitation to all staff. In this phase of the process, we also think it is a good signal to the rank and file that the Works Council and trade unions are working together, despite their own position and role.
