Bosch Transmission Technology: Reorganization announced

May 17, 2023

De Unie has been informed by the employer Bosch Transmission about the announced reorganization at Bosch Transmission Technology. This will result in the loss of approximately 175 jobs. This will take place between now and until 2025. For indirect employees, this will take place even earlier, at the latest by the end of this year. It is a considerable intervention for these colleagues who unfortunately no longer seem to have any future prospects at Bosch Transmission.

The reason

According to the employer, the cause lies with the too rapid drop in demand from the CvT pushbelts and the te slow development of new products. This also reduces the production volume of the push belts. At the same time, the employer indicated that they will have to remain as profitable as possible with the current product portfolio in order to finance the development of the new products. That is why the employer feels compelled to strengthen its competitive position in this way. Due to the electrification trend, the demand for the push belt will decrease further in the coming years, resulting in an overcapacity in both production locations.

Relocation of production push belts

Due to the further decline in demand, Bosch wants to move production of the push belt to the factory in Ho Chi Minh City. The Vietnam location is closer to the countries of China and Japan, where the company's largest customers are located. Bosch in Tilburg will continue to support the factory in Vietnam with push belt expertise.

Future vision employer

Tilburg intends to focus on the development and mass production of thin metal components for electric motors, hydrogen and fuel cell technologies. “These sustainable components will be much needed in the coming decades for the transformation in both the automotive market and at your employer”.

What can De Unie mean to you?

De Unie finds the reorganization a very worrying development. Not only for the 175 colleagues who will now lose their jobs in the short term, but also for the long-term consequences. After all, developing new products entails a great deal of uncertainty. Nevertheless, we hope that the employer can speed up the development of the new products, which will prevent even more colleagues from losing their jobs in the long run. We will continue to closely monitor these developments.

Social plan as safety net necessary!

We want to make agreements with Bosch about a good social plan! This social plan must serve as a safety net for colleagues who will lose their jobs. The first consultation will take place on 7 June 2023. In the meantime, we will also consult with our members and the Works Council to properly coordinate the content of the social plan. The members of De Unie we will keep you regularly informed about the negotiations. In addition, our lawyers are ready to help you with your questions, but also to advise you in the follow-up process.
