Improved atmosphere

As we previously reported, the second day of negotiations was unsuccessful. Despite attempts to persuade the employer to take action, nothing actually happened. We did, of course, provide anonymized feedback on the reactions we received from our members in response. This likely contributed to a better atmosphere last Thursday. On the third day, the employer demonstrated a willingness to collaborate on solutions to bridge the significant differences.

Situation

The employer was willing to adjust the original wage offer. At the same time, the gap between what we are asking and what they are offering remains significant. The wage offer has been increased to 2,5% effective January 1, 2026, with a further 2,5% effective January 1, 2027, assuming the collective bargaining agreement has a term of two years.

Challenges

This offer remains far removed from the unions' original wage target of 7%. As you know, during the second day of negotiations, we revised our request to 6% for a one-year collective bargaining agreement. We did this to speed up negotiations. We realize that AZL is facing difficult times with significant challenges. This not only impacts costs but also the extra effort expected of employees. And that requires appropriate compensation.

Wish list

The remaining wishes of both parties have now been discussed in detail. It's gradually becoming clear what's feasible and what's not. We've explored with interest the problem behind the leave options. We've suggested a solution that might be acceptable to an employee, one that certainly doesn't disadvantage them. We've also been firm about the transitional arrangements agreed upon in the past: they are irrevocable.

Dilemma

At this stage of the negotiations, it's difficult to discuss individual topics in detail. There are still too many "sliding panels" for that. Ultimately, it's about the total package of measures that members with Complete or Extra membership can vote on. As long as there's no clarity about the feasible topics, let alone their form and coherence, we can't yet specify the consequences.

How further?

The unions have hinted at potential solutions. On Tuesday, November 25th, during the fourth day of negotiations, we will try to work together further. In the meantime, the employer will further explore the proposed options, including addressing the wage gap.
