Tata Steel does not change approach to reorganization

May 08, 2025

In our previous post we wrote that Tata Steel did not meet the demands of De Unie and the other unions to adjust the process towards the announced reorganization. Apparently the signal that we gave on April 14 with more than 1000 Tata Steel employees was not enough for the management.

What is the core of our message?

We want the 1600 FTE to be taken off the table. Tata Steel's objective is a reduction in personnel costs, which should be central. And how many FTE that will ultimately cost, must be substantiated from detailed plans. Those detailed plans are not yet available.

The employer indicated in the Technical Consultation of 7 May 2025 that the detailed plans will be ready by mid-June. We strongly feel that the objective of 1600 FTE reduction is central, not how we build a healthy steel company with prospects for the employees. We also wonder whether Tata Steel involves the right experts from the shop floor when developing the plans.

Invitation to joint members meeting

As Tata Steel continues to maintain its approach, we need to increase the pressure to get the employer moving. We call on you and your colleagues to shape our next steps together. So that we are ready when we need to take action.

Therefore, come to the members' meeting of De Unie and its fellow unions. Non-members are also welcome.

Date: May 12, 2025
Start: 09: 30 hour
Location: Action tent next to the Tata Steel Academy (the company school)

When you become a member, you normally have a waiting period of 3 months for individual services and 6 months for legal procedures. Especially for new members at Tata Steel, the 3-month waiting period is now waived. Furthermore, our usual discount applies in the first year.
