Yesterday, May 5, 2025, was Liberation Day. In recent years, it has been a holiday in the collective labor agreement for Housing Services. But that only happens once every five years… Did you enjoy your day off yesterday? Good news: from next year, Liberation Day will be a paid day off every year!

Commitment of trade unions
For years, the unions have been advocating for this at the collective labor agreement table: Liberation Day as an annual holiday. This is in line with advice from the Stichting van de Arbeid of March 5, 2021. But a collective labor agreement on this point never came about. Until this year. In the new collective labor agreement 2025-2027 it was agreed that May 5 will not only be seen as a holiday once every 5 years, but every year.
A day of great value
Especially in the current times, where geopolitical unrest and major conflicts are the order of the day, the value of Liberation Day is great. Cherishing our freedom and actually being able to celebrate it is a great asset! Our members have been giving us this signal for a long time.
That the financial value of this agreement is also greater than what was originally arranged, is clear. Especially when you realize that a free weekday on May 5th in the original arrangement would not be on the agenda again until 2045… Now you have a paid day off every year.
Celebrate this beautiful appointment together with a colleague!
As a member of De Unie do you know that we make nice agreements at the collective labor agreement table. And that we have had May 5th as an annual holiday on our agenda for a long time.
But your unorganized colleague will also be free on May 5 next year thanks to De Unie and her fellow unions. Together you can contribute to an even stronger Union. Therefore, make your colleague a member. As a thank you, you will receive a bol.com gift voucher of € 12,50. You can make your colleague a member here..
