Philips: Feedback from the RVU scheme consultation

On Monday, September 1, 2025, we met with your employer to further elaborate on the collective labor agreement agreement from the end of 2024 regarding a new early retirement scheme. The current scheme expires on January 1, 2026.

Philips doesn't see hard work!

To our surprise, Philips initially seemed unwilling to introduce a new early retirement scheme. Philips doesn't consider strenuous work to be suitable for a new early retirement scheme. References were made to the nuisance allowance, which almost no one can claim, and a PAGO (Periodic Occupational Health Survey) that showed that while night shifts do cause sleep problems, they believe these can be easily remedied with lifestyle advice.

Even if there were indeed heavy work, Philips wants to wait and see how other companies approach this.

Moreover, according to Philips, if night work were eligible for a new early retirement scheme, it would essentially be completely out of the question in the future. The production process would then have to be redesigned to be healthier. So much so that Philips believes night work would be completely out of the question.

Compliance with collective labor agreement

We immediately reminded Philips of the collective labor agreement: a new early retirement scheme is essential. We feel they lack a structured approach and have emphasized that developments at other companies shouldn't be grounds for inaction. Defining night shifts as heavy work doesn't mean they should be eliminated entirely. It's precisely about working together to find ways to organize work more effectively and healthily, with employee awareness in mind.

It's clear that establishing a new early retirement scheme is no easy task. Nevertheless, the collective labor agreement parties have collectively committed to this.

How further?

After repeated requests, Philips is willing to continue discussions about the early retirement scheme. We will meet again on September 15, 2025. We will, of course, keep you updated afterward.
