De Unie has called upon employers in the (metal) industry in a joint letter on behalf of the trade unions to speak out against the government's plans to worsen social security in the Netherlands. In this message, we explain what this means.
What is going on?
The new government has plans to drastically strip down social security in the Netherlands. This affects all employees in the Netherlands. Not only through the dismantling of the AOW, WW, and WIA, but also through the reduction of insured income and creeping increases in the tax burden. That is according to De Unie unacceptable.
Social security is essential in a rapidly changing world and offers employees the necessary support to continue participating in the workforce in good health for the long term.
Workers in industrial sectors are being hit hard
De Unie has collaborated with employers for years as a social partner in the metal sectors to provide calm, stability, and security. Sectoral agreements on unemployment benefit schemes, early retirement schemes, and disability insurance offer security to employees in a (metal) sector that is otherwise constantly under pressure.
The new cabinet's plans take a step back in that regard, which De Unie regarding.
Call to employers: Speak out!
The trade unions are therefore jointly calling on employers in a letter to speak out against the deteriorations of the WIA, WW, and AOW schemes. We hope that employers' and employees' organizations can join forces to stand up for the position of employees in the labor market.
