Overview of individual compensation

ING made a forecast of the SUPM scores for the Pay for Growth and compared them with the scores that were ultimately given.

In Inge de Vries's opinion, this comparison is insufficient because it involves a very large group of scores (namely, all ING employees). With such a large group, a normal distribution quickly emerges, making differences and deviations difficult to detect. Therefore, the advocate has asked ING for more detailed figures to provide a clearer picture of how the scores are actually distributed and whether there are deviations per team, department, or job group. If any notable findings emerge from these more detailed figures, she will inform you accordingly.

Individual remuneration survey

To gain a clear picture of what ING employees think about individual compensation, the advocacy group asked our members for their opinion on this subject in February. A summary of the key results and the corresponding next steps will be in your mailbox early next week.

Business Banking: how SUPM scores and targets work in practice

Business Banking was discussed with ING based on targeted questions. How are sales targets set during the goal-setting meeting? How are employees coached throughout the year so that the final performance review does not come as a surprise? How is variable compensation determined and communicated? We were able to have a good discussion on these matters and gained insights that could be useful for the collective labor agreement negotiations.

Conclusion of the 32-hour work week study

It was agreed in the collective labour agreement to examine, through a joint study by the employers and the trade unions, whether a 32-hour work week could be a feasible and valuable step for ING. This study has now been completed. The conclusion drawn from it is that a 32-hour work week is less suitable for ING. Below, the representative explains how this conclusion was reached.

ING has determined that employees highly value flexibility in the workweek. The ability to structure the workweek themselves, tailored to their role, responsibilities, and personal situation, is important to many employees and helps them perform well. ING therefore offers the option to spread the 36-hour workweek over four days, but also to work 40 hours per week if someone prefers. A standard 32-hour workweek would limit this flexibility.

Inge de Vries recognizes this motive. Furthermore, the ING employees indicated in the study of De Unie regarding hybrid working, they indicated that they experience the pressure to work in the office more often as an infringement on their autonomy. In addition, it was frequently emphasized that personal circumstances must be taken into account when making agreements about hybrid working.

The employer has mentioned several other reasons why a standard 32-hour work week is not feasible or does not offer sufficient added value. For questions or more information regarding these points, you can send an email to the representative via inge.de.vries@unie.nl.

As far as she is concerned, the study was conducted carefully, with sufficient room to discuss and weigh the pros and cons of a standard 32-hour work week.
