Alfen: Agreement in principle for new social plan

De Unie and the other trade unions have reached an agreement in principle with Alfen regarding a new social plan for the period from 1 April 2026 to 31 December 2027. An information meeting for employees regarding this will take place on Friday 10 April 2026. In this message, we tell you everything about it.

Explanation of social plan on April 10, 2026

De Unie will hold a staff meeting together with the other trade unions to explain the agreement in principle for the social plan.

All employees are welcome, but only union members may vote for the approval of the social plan.

 

When may members of De Unie to vote?

After the staff meeting, members will receive an email explaining how they can vote on the social plan. The voting will run from April 10, 2026, to April 24, 2026.

Members with a Complete or Extra membership may cast their vote and collectively decide whether this social plan is approved. So, this is the perfect time to become a member! 

What has been changed in the social plan?

The updated social plan has been adjusted and clarified on a number of points:

  • When calculating the gross monthly salary, the average overtime paid in the 12 months prior to the notice is now taken into account (and is therefore higher).
  • The maximum termination payment has been increased from €188.000 to €204.000.
  • A temporary addendum for pension compensation has been agreed for departing colleagues. If they wish to voluntarily continue the PME pension during a period of unemployment, Alfen will grant a contribution equal to the employer's share of the pension premium until 1 February 2027.
  • The text of the plan has been further simplified.
  • The scope has been adjusted, so that Alfen NV now also formally falls under the social plan.

Addendum to the 2026 Social Plan

If you leave employment no later than 1 February 2027 under the social plan, you may miss out on pension compensation from PME Pensioenfonds. This addendum describes the temporary compensation we have agreed with Alfen to prevent this. You can the addendum here . 

Guidance from "work to work"

De Unie considers good guidance and mediation from “job to job” for redundant employees to be of great importance. Consequently, sufficient provision has been made for this in the social plan. Redundant employees can request a personal intake interview with a career advisor following an information meeting. This advisor offers guidance towards other work, job coaching, and training advice.

The termination fee

The termination payment consists of the transition payment increased by a factor of 2,1. The statutory maximum for the transition payment amounts to €102.000 gross (in 2026) or an annual salary if this is higher. However, a maximum termination payment of €204.000 gross has been agreed upon in the social plan. Consequently, employees can count on a much more generous severance payment through the social plan than the statutory compensation.

Trade union membership

If the redundant employee has been a member of for at least 3 months at the time of the notification De Unie in that case, the employee will receive an additional one-off amount of €1.000 gross from Alfen with the final settlement.
