The current social plan expires on July 1, 2026. Yesterday, April 2, 2026, we held an initial (exploratory) meeting with Achmea regarding a new social plan. This is important because reorganization will undoubtedly continue in the coming years, whether concerning the announced consequences of AI, the changes at APS, or the upcoming closure of the head office in Zeist. In this message, we would like to briefly inform you about the first meeting and give you the opportunity to provide input or express your opinion.
Effort De Unie
We believe it is important that Achmea employees have certainty regarding the social consequences of reorganizations. A good social plan is part of this. The current social plan is a good one. Therefore, we would like to extend it – in principle – for the coming years as well. However, there is an important point of attention regarding this.
As of July 1, 2027, your pension scheme will change. Under the Pension Future Act (WTP), your pension will no longer be accrued using a progressive scale (higher contributions as you get older), but with a flat premium. Employees employed at that time will be compensated for this, and this could amount to a significant sum. Therefore, if you have to leave the company shortly before that date, you will face a substantial disadvantage. We believe that a compensation agreement is necessary to address this.
In addition, we believe we need to take another close look at the amounts mentioned in the old social plan. Since we extended the plan more or less unchanged last time as well, it may be necessary to increase (index) these amounts.
Achmea's position
The good news is that Achmea also wants to continue the current plan in broad outline. Achmea is also willing to make agreements regarding a form of pension compensation. In addition, Achmea has proposed adjusting the criteria for redundancy if your position is relocated. Unlike the current social plan, this will also take into account the possibility of working from home, the actual number of times you need to go to the office, and your mode of travel.
What do you think?
On Thursday, April 9, we will continue the discussion with Achmea. Do you have any ideas, suggestions, or wishes? Or would you like to respond to the efforts of De Unie and/or Achmea? Then send a message to huug.brinkers@unie.nl.
As always, we will keep the employees informed of the next steps. We believe it should be possible to reach an agreement with Achmea in a quick and constructive manner. And as soon as this is the case, you – together with the other Union members – will have the final say, but more on that later.
