Over the past few weeks, employees—on behalf of the joint unions—have had the opportunity to share their opinions on the outcome of the discussions (final proposal) between Achmea and the unions for the new collective labor agreement. The outcome was announced the day before yesterday. We would like to share this information with everyone and briefly explain it in this update.
The outcome
The consultation was organized by an independent agency. They indicated that 72% of all employees (8.479 in total) voted. That's a more than excellent result.
A total of 58% (4.893 employees) voted in favor of the new collective labor agreement. Conversely, 42% (3.586 employees) voted against. This means a representative majority of employees approved the new collective labor agreement.
Different outcome
For the fellow unions, the outcome of this consultation is "advisory." A majority of their members did not agree. In response to the results, Achmea announced the day before yesterday that a collective labor agreement has therefore been concluded with only De UnieIt's not uncommon for union consultations to lead to different outcomes. We've also experienced this at Achmea in the recent past. The most logical next step in the event of unequal results is for the parties to take the time to find a solution. After all, the goal is an agreement with all parties.
That is why we, as unions, have explicitly requested Achmea to discuss this with each other. De Unie also took the initiative for this. The differences in content aren't actually all that significant. Unfortunately, it quickly became clear that there wasn't enough support for this. We find this a great shame, because a collective labor agreement with all parties is always our preference.
Respect the result
The fact is that there is now a majority (over 1.300 more "yes" voters) among employees in favor of the new collective labor agreement. A result we naturally respect. That's how a democratic process works. This means the new collective labor agreement is a reality. And although we haven't been able to realize all our wishes, the result is certainly not bad. We must be that honest.
- On 1 January 2026, a structural salary increase of 3,5% and a one-off payment of 1.250 euros gross;
- A structural increase of 3% on 1 January 2027;
- The new pension scheme (within the framework of the WTP) is fiscally maximum (it couldn't be better), and the increase in the personal contribution is compensated.
Open to criticism
Many of the critical responses we've received concern the wage increases. Are these increases appropriate for Achmea's situation and do they truly preserve purchasing power? We won't be able to answer this question with certainty until mid-2027. And if the currently agreed-upon increases prove insufficient, correcting them will be at the top of our new wish list. That's how it works. You can count on it!
