Achmea: No new collective labor agreement for the time being!

June 13, 2025
Achmea

Last Tuesday, June 10, 2025, we once again consulted with Achmea about the new collective labor agreement. An important consultation, because it had previously become apparent that we could not reach an agreement. In the meantime, many employees have given their opinion: via our previous poll and in the responses to the news on Achmeanet. In this update, we would like to inform you about the outcome of the consultation and the follow-up.

Discussion about employee opinions

For us it is 'cut and clear': employees have clearly indicated in the survey that the topics loon en retirement are important. And Achmea's latest proposal falls short in that regard. Paying more and taking more risk for a lesser pension scheme, combined with a non-market-conform salary increase, is simply not attractive. And that is understandable. Achmea is a healthy company. Why then want to make such drastic cuts on pensions and a non-market-conform salary offer?

Achmea indicated in the consultation that they estimate that the last proposal is acceptable for many employees. In doing so, they seem to ignore the outcome of our poll and the many responses on Achmeanet. We find that difficult to understand.

Outcome of the consultation

The last consultation unfortunately did not yield much. Only a few minor improvements:

  • The opportunity for the so-called 'unlucky generation' to repay their student debt in a tax-friendly way will be increased from €750 to €1.000 per year.
  • An increase in the allowance for commuting, with the maximum distance increasing from 50 to 60 kilometers.

However, Achmea did not want to make any further concessions, not even on the important issues of wages and pensions.

What now?

We do not understand Achmea's position. It has been agreed that employees will have an important voice in the collective labor agreement process. That also means: listening to what employees say. A non-market-conform wage offer and a substantial reduction of pension costs for Achmea do not fit in with that.

Although the impasse does not seem solvable at the moment, we realise that the new collective labour agreement will ultimately be concluded at the negotiating table. It has been agreed that we will deliberate. A new consultation date has also been planned. Unfortunately, it turned out to be impossible to meet again before mid-September. This means that there will be no new collective labour agreement when the current collective labour agreement expires – and that is of course disappointing.

Your interest, our commitment

The collective labor agreement negotiations at Achmea have often been difficult in recent years. It takes us a lot of effort to convince Achemea of the wishes of the employees. That is why it is important that – in addition to our role in the collective labor agreement process – we can also count on a broad membership base. The good news is that many Achmea employees have joined us in recent years. And that is still possible. A growing number of members is also a clear signal to Achmea: employees want a good collective labor agreement, now and in the future. And we will continue to work towards that – in the interest of the employees.
