Achmea: No agreement yet!

April 16, 2026

We have now consulted with Achmea for a second time regarding a new social plan. The starting point remains to extend the old social plan essentially unchanged. However, there are still two points of discussion. A brief update on this is included in this newsletter.

Pension compensation

In the previous message, we already explained that the pension scheme at Achmea will change due to the introduction of the new Pension Act (WTP). The intended implementation date of the new scheme is now July 1, 2027. On this date, all active participants would receive a one-off compensation for the disadvantage associated with the introduction of a 'flat premium'. Under the current scheme, contributions increase as you get older. If you leave Achmea as an employee before the implementation date, you will miss out on this compensation. That would represent a significant disadvantage.

Achmea and the trade unions are in discussions regarding this, but have not yet reached an agreement. This concerns the amount of compensation (we want full compensation and Achmea is currently offering partial compensation) and the conditions Achmea is attaching to it (whether or not to take into account any compensation elsewhere).

For De Unie This is an important subject. If employees are employed by Achmea, compensation is provided from the fund's assets. This is not possible for employees leaving Achmea due to a reorganization. This entails additional costs for Achmea. However, the employees do not choose to lose their jobs through a reorganization and therefore deserve to be compensated. Furthermore, Achmea has seen pension liabilities decrease significantly in recent years. In our view, this offers sufficient scope to provide full compensation now.

Redundancy when relocating work

We also discussed at length the travel time criteria for redundancy when relocating work. The current social plan only considers travel by public transport, whereas the UWV in principle bases its decision on the realistically fastest travel time. conventional transport.

This remains a tricky subject, as so many variations are conceivable (and likely occur in practice). The choice of transport in combination with the usual mode of travel is, of course, also important in this regard. And that makes it quite difficult, because the distance to and accessibility of locations can vary considerably.

The intention is to ensure that a realistic comparison can be made between the old and new travel situations. In doing so, we must align somewhat with the limits applied by the UWV and ensure that the burden of travel time (whether or not combined with the possibility of working from home) remains acceptable for employees, even when considering the work-life balance. The discussion on this matter has not yet been concluded.

The sequel

The consultations will resume on Monday, April 20. We hope that there will be 'white smoke' by then, so that we can further inform the members and submit the result for a vote.
