Pension compensation

There were still a few loose ends after the previous meeting on January 12th. One of these was whether the tax authorities would allow the gross premium to be deducted from the gross severance pay. Unfortunately, this is not permitted. This means that employees using the temporary arrangement must deduct the gross pension premium from the net severance pay from the social plan. It's important to know that the withheld premium can subsequently be reclaimed through the 2026 income tax return.

Another open point was the exact duration of the temporary arrangement. The period runs from March 1, 2026, to January 1, 2027 (the intended transition date). Only employees who are required to leave the bank within this period through the social plan can use it. The bank estimates that this will affect several hundred employees. The bank is currently working out the details. You will receive full details of the temporary arrangement as soon as we have them.

Alfam

Thursday, January 15, 2026 has De Unie A digital information meeting was organized for members and employees of Alfam (a wholly owned subsidiary of ABN AMRO) regarding the proposed sale to Freo (a wholly owned subsidiary of Rabobank) effective October 1, 2026. We discussed the reasons for the sale, the Transfer of Undertakings Act (Wet Overgang van Ondernemingen), the effects on employment conditions, the request for advice, and the next steps in the process. Good questions were asked about what exactly this means for them. Any questions we couldn't answer immediately will be addressed in the meeting with the bank. We will then address them with the members later.

In our meeting with the bank on January 20th, we indicated that we wanted to hold a meeting to discuss this process further. The bank has agreed to this and is inviting the trade unions to attend. More to follow.

Involvement in collective labor agreements

A new collective labor agreement (CLA) must be finalized by July 1, 2026. We will begin negotiations in March to ensure we can be ready on time.
