ING: Employees make themselves heard loud and clear

November 14 2022

In large numbers you were present at Cedar on Thursday 10 November to offer a petition to Maarten van Beek on behalf of 6676 colleagues. It is not the story of the union, or of a few colleagues. The feeling that ING can no longer continue on this line is broadly supported in various layers of the organisation. This is evident from all substantive reactions, but was also clearly visible on Thursday.

We are not out to take action, but sometimes it is necessary to wake up the employer. We did that together. Members' speeches clearly stated: ''There must be a significantly better offer than is currently the case. An offer that does justice to the current circumstances: a 2-year zero line, a significant loss of purchasing power due to an unprecedented high inflation, and a fantastic profit for ING that was made possible by us, but of which we see the majority directly to the shareholders run away.” In response to the speeches, Maarten indicated that it is seen that you work really hard, that the noise about the high work pressure has come in and that they understand that more is needed in these special times of inflation. He indicated that a better offer would be made on Monday, but that they should take into account all stakeholders, including shareholders and customers.

ING's response

ING says that the noise of employees has been heard and is making a new offer. ING presents the new proposal as an improvement for employees. But alas, this is a misrepresentation. We discussed the new proposal, our response and possible next steps with our executives today. Tomorrow we will inform you substantively. Then we will explain the renewed ING offer to you and let you know what the next steps are De Unie will be. As trade unions, we will then also provide a joint response to ING.
