Contract catering (Horeca): CLA negotiations

March 02 2022

The current Collective Labor Agreement for Contract Catering runs until 1 April 2022. In a number of rounds in January, February and March, we are working on a new Collective Labor Agreement with agreements for different groups of employees. The current employees who now fall under the collective agreement contract catering and new employees who work in contract catering and catering. This will then become the Collective Labor Agreement for Hospitality with a broader scope than the current Collective Labor Agreement for Contract Catering. In addition to discussions on the entire collective labor agreement, the social partners also simultaneously discuss the specific situation and employment conditions for the inflight branch.

CLA negotiations

On Tuesday, March 1, 2022, employers and the trade unions discussed wages, generation pact, leave savings, buying extra ADV, mileage allowance, compensation for a holiday and developments in Ukraine. Below I explain a few points further.

Loon
Employers are uncertain about the future of Schiphol and KLM with possible effects on employment in the future. Gate Gourmet has recently received NOW support and KCS is linked to state support through parent company KLM. On the other hand, they also see that they have to take a step in the area of wages. That is why they follow the wage commitment of employers in the broad sector collective labor agreement. I have indicated that I recognize the developments mentioned, but that employees now pay higher prices at the pump and spend more on their groceries at the supermarket.

Generation pact
The basic idea is that employees who now work five days in inflight can start working four days (80%), receive 95% wages and 95% accrue pension. We are thinking of a target group of 5 years before the start of the state pension with at least 10 years of service and in any case working in production and as a driver. This will free up staff to take on 'younger' employees. The point of negotiation is the financing of the scheme, whereby it must be attractive and affordable for both sides. For the coming round, employers are working out a number of (calculation) examples for the inflight. Extending the purchase of ADV days would be an option for employees who do not participate in the Generation Pact. Employers will also come back to that next time.

Kilometer allowance
KCS and Gate Gourmet have provided us with an overview of their current travel arrangements. They now pay different fees to their employees over different distances. They are not unsympathetic to an increase to 0,19 cents per kilometer driven for the travel distance between 10 and 40 kilometres. The point is then still the travel allowance for employees up to 10 km and above 40 km. We will discuss this further in the next round. In any case, there will be a third round of negotiations for the inflight and possibly a fourth.
