
“The government’s purchasing power figures are like fast food restaurants,” says chairman Reinier Castelein. “They promise you a full stomach. But in the end, you’re left hungry at home. These purchasing power figures also promise all sorts of things, but they don’t solve the financial stress of middle incomes.”
According to Castelein, the fact that the government indicates that the burdens must be reduced and the net disposable income must increase is worth little. "That sounds hopeful. Yet it is the government from The Hague to the province and municipality that keeps increasing the burdens. This government promises all sorts of things for tomorrow and the day after. But next week it turns out to be disappointing again."
This clear message follows the government's plans and the outcome of the expenditure certainty study. De UnieThis survey was conducted again this year among members of the Association, just as in 2020 and 2022. De Unie and a representative sample of Dutch secondary and higher educated and retired professionals.
Even though the research shows a positive trend compared to previous years, where the energy crisis and extreme inflation figures dominated in 2022, expenditure uncertainty and lack of control over expenditure remain a major concern. De Unie continues to ask for attention.
